<프렌치-인디언 전쟁이 독립전쟁을 초래하다>

 

18세기에 유럽의 나라들은 서로 자주 전쟁을 벌였다. 

 

그들은 대게 유럽에서 싸웠다.

 

그러나 때로 그들은 다른 지역에서도 싸웠다.

 

이들 다른 지역 중의 하나가 아메리카였다.

 

1750년대와 1760년대에 영국인과 프랑스인는 북아메리카에서 전쟁을 벌였다.

 

어떤 사람들은 그것을 '프렌치-인디언 전쟁'이라고 불렀다.

 

어떤 이들을 그것을 '7년 전쟁'이라고 불렀다.

 

기본적으로 영국인과 아메리카 식민지 이주자들이 한편이었다.

 

프랑스인과 아메리카 원주민들이 그 반대편이었다.

 

영국인이 전쟁에서 이겼다.

 

그래서 프랑스인은 북아메리카의 대부분을 떠났다. 

 

그들은 그들 식민지의 대부분을 영국인에게 넘겨주어야 했다.

 

그러나 이 전쟁은 영국인에게 아주 많은 돈이 들게 했다.

<The French and Indian War Leads to Revolution>

 

In the eighteenth century, countries in Europe often fought wars against each other.

 

They usually fought in Europe.

 

But sometimes they fought in other places.

 

One of these other places was in America.

 

In the 1750s and 1760s, the British and French fought a war in North America.

 

Some people called it 'the French and Indian War'.

 

Others called it 'the Seven Years' War'.

 

Basically, the British and American colonists were on one side.

 

The French and Native Americans were on the other side.

 

The British won the war.

 

So the French left most of North America.

 

They had to give many of their colonies to the British.

 

But the war was very expensive for the British.

 

So King George III of Britain wanted to raise taxes in the colonies.

 

He said the British had protected the colonies.

 

So they should pay higher taxes.

 

The British passed many taxes.

 

These included 'the Stamp Act' and 'the Tea Act'.

 

But there were many others.

 

The Amerians hated the taxes and thought they were unfair.

 

They called them 'the Intolerable Acts'.

 

Eventually, Britain's actions led to war in the colonies.

 

The Americans revolted.

 

And then they gained freedom from Britain.

 

That happened because of the American Revolution.
