<원소>

 

전 우주는 물질로 이루어져 있다.

 

그리고 물질은 원소나 화합물로 이루어져 있다.

 

화합물은 두 개 이상의 원소들의 화학적 결합물이다.

 

원소란 무엇일까?

 

그것은 헬륨이나 금처럼 오직 한 종류의 원자로만 이루어진 물질이다.

 

원자는 원소의 최소 단위이다.

 

110개 이상의 원소가 있다.

 

대부분은 자연적이다.

 

그래서 그들은 자연적으로 생긴다.

 

그런데 과학자들이 몇 개의 원소를 만들었다.

 

그것들은 오직 실험실에서만 생긴다.

 

모든 원자는 비슷한 구조를 가지고 있다.

 

그들은 원자핵을 가지고 있고 이것은 원자의 중심이다.

 

원자핵 속에는 양성자와 중성자가 있다.

 

원소들은 각각 다른 수의 양성자와 중성자를 가지고 있다.

 

예를 들면 수소는 1개의 양성자와 0개의 중성자를 가지고 있다.

 

헬륨은 2개의 양성자와 2개의 중성자를 가지고 있다.

 

산소는 8개의 양성자와 8개의 중성자를 가지고 있다.

 

금은 79개의 양성자와 118개의 중성자를 가지고 있다.

 

원자핵의 바깥쪽에는 전자가 있다.

 

그들은 원자핵 주위를 돈다.

 

전자는 음의 전하(음전하)를 가지고 있다.

 

그러나 양성자는 양의 전하(양전하)를 가지고 있다.

 

또한 한 개의 원소는 대개 같은 수의 양성자와 전자를 가지고 있다.

 

그러나 그들의 수는 때로 다를 수도 있다.

<Elements>

 

The entire universe is made of matter. 

 

And matter is made of elements or compounds.

 

Compounds are chemical combinations of two or more elements.

 

What is an element?

 

It is a substance that is made up of only one kind of atom, such as helium or gold.

 

Atom is the smallest unit of an element.

 

There are more than 110 elements.

 

Most are natural.

 

So they appear in nature.

 

But scientists have made a few elements.

 

They only appear in labs.

 

All atom have a similar structure.

 

They have a nucleus, this is the center of an atom.

 

Inside the nucleus, there are protons and neutrons.

 

Elements have different numbers of protons and neutrons.

 

For example, hydrogen has 1 proton and 0 neutrons.

 

Helium has 2 protons and 2 neutrons.

 

Oxygen has 8 protons and 8 neutrons.

 

Gold has 79 protons and 118 neutrons.

 

Outside the nucleus, there are electrons. 

 

They orbit the nucleus.

 

Electrons have negative charges.

 

But protons have positive charges.

 

Also an element usually has the same number of protons and electrons.
