<아나사지 인디언>

 

오늘날 북아메리카에는 많은 아메리카 원주민 부족들이 있다. 

 

과거에는 더 많이 있었다.

 

그러나 그들 중 일부는 '마야 족'이나 '아즈텍 족'처럼 사라졌다.

 

이런 일은 수세기 전에 또 다른 아메리카 원주민 부족에게도 일어났다.

 

그들은 '아나사지 족'이었다. 아나사지 족은 오늘날의 남서부 지역에 살았다.

 

그들은 천여 년 전에 그 지역에서 살았다.

 

그들은 인상 깊은 문화를 가지고 있었다.

 

그들은 그들만의 독특한 도기를 만들었다.

 

그리고 그들 중 일부는 심지어 절벽 안에 지어진 집에 살기도 했다.

 

그러나 1200년 경에 그들은 갑자기 사라졌다.

 

무슨 일이 일어났는지 아무도 확실히 알지 못한다.

 

어떤 사람들은 다른 부족이 전쟁에서 아나사지 족을 쳐부수었다고 생각한다. 

 

어떤 이들은 질병이 그들을 죽였다고 생각한다. 

 

그러나 대부분의 고고학자들은 가뭄이 있었다고 생각한다.

 

그들이 살았던 남서부 지역은 비가 아주 적게 온다.

 

아나사지 족은 그들 부족에 많은 사람들이 있었다.

 

만약 한참 동안 비가 오지 않았다면 그들은 금방 물이 동이 났을 것이다.

 

아마도 가뭄이 그들을 다른 지역으로 이동하게 했을 것이다.

 

오늘날에는 인공유물과 아나사지 건물의 유적만이 남아 있다.

<The Anasazi>

 

Today, there are many Native American tribes in North America.

 

In the past, there were many more.

 

However, some of them disappeared like 'the Mayans' and 'the Aztecs'.

 

This happened to another tribe of Native Americans many centuries ago.

 

They were 'the Anasazi'.

 

The Anasazi lived in moden day the Southwest area.

 

They lived in that area a thousand years ago.

 

They had an impressive culture.

 

They made their own unique pottery.

 

And some of them even lived in homes built into cliffs.

 

However, around 1200, they suddenly disappeared. 

 

No one is sure what happened.

 

Some people believe another tribe defeated the Anasazi in war.

 

Others believe that a disease killed them.

 

But most archaeologists think there was a drought.

 

In the Southwest area where they lived, there are very little rain.

 

The Anasazi had a lot of people in their tribes.

 

If it did not rain for a long time, they would have quickly run out of water.

 

Perhaps a drought caused them to move to another area.

 

Today, only artifacts and the ruins of Anasazi buildings remain.

 

But no one knows where they went.
